Sponsorship: Stories of Gratitude

Earlier this month, we reached out to our sponsors to ask them why they sponsor and what it means to them to know they are caring for a vulnerable child on the other side of the globe.

So many of our sponsors came through with stories that reminded us why we commit ourselves to this work.

With their permission, we share their stories with you now, hoping you are as encouraged and inspired by them as we were.

Meet Anne-Marie!

Anne-Marie is one of our international sponsors! She lives in the beautiful country of Denmark.

As a social worker, Anne-Marie has a heart for children and young adults. "I really see the need for children to be seen and set free in this world," she says. "Children are those who get exploited and misused."

Anne-Marie has been sponsoring her little boy since February 2023! Her heart for vulnerable children is what initially inspired her to sponsor a child through Light a Candle.

Anne-Marie attended Burn in Denmark for a few years where she says she got to know Sean Feucht and his family. "I found that their way of serving the Lord is very genuine," she says, "...I decided this Light the candle was something I could/can embrace from my heart!"

When asked what she found most meaningful about her sponsorship experience, Anne-Marie said it's knowing that the child she sponsors is freed from poverty and has a chance in this world.

Meet Christine!

Christine lives in sunny Florida with her sweet dog. She is one of our newest sponsors!

Christine's love for the little boy she's been sponsoring since June this year shines through her heartfelt letters. She says seeing his photos and being able to write him letters makes her feel connected to him.

"It makes me feel like we are family even if we are on the other side of the world from each other," she says.

When asked what she found most meaningful about her sponsorship experience, she said, "Just being able to pray for someone and see their growth physically and spiritually. I have my sponsor child’s picture on my fridge. I don’t have any of my own children so he’s my adopted child!"

Meet Davida!

Davida lives in Georgia. She has sponsored one of her children for over 3 years and another for 2 years!

Davida has a big heart for children and believes in caring for the whole person: body and soul! She started sponsoring her children out of a desire to provide for their physical needs, but she understands that faithful prayer is powerful in seeing them “increase in wisdom and stature, and favor with God and man” (Luke 2:45).

When asked about a specific moment that deeply moved her, Davida shared a special memory.

"A couple of years back, the directors had gone to the village and taken a personal picture of my child," she said. "Very special to receive that."

Davida explained that the most meaningful part of sponsoring is knowing that her financial support allows her sponsor kids and their families to stay together.

We are so thankful for our child sponsors.

Without them, we wouldn’t be a child sponsorship program at all, and we certainly wouldn’t be able to ensure nearly 1,200 kids in remote India receive regular meals, medical checkups, and an education!

Our child sponsors are the reason these children, once living in darkness, get to know the hope that only Jesus can give.

If you are not yet part of our sponsorship family, please consider sponsoring a child today!
